One for the Teachers

We all pick up the game somewhere. We all have those in our lives who stick a club in our hands and let us swing away. For many of us, that person is our father. Golf is a game passed on from generation to generation and takes on a familial feel. Golf trips are dreamt up with our Dads in mind, many of our first sets of clubs are our dads old ones, and almost all of us get our first golf lesson from the Head Pro at Home.

Our swings are often crafted hitting golf balls into a lake, net, or field with our dads by our sides. Dads teach us not to walk in others line, to always fix our ball marks and to always rake the bunkers as you leave.

Dads play many roles in our lives, but as far as Golf is concerned, they often play the role of teacher, and don’t get as much credit ad they deserve for it. It’s no secret that I’m a lefty because of my dad, considering I’m right handed in everything else…. Just saying.

Dads show us how to load our golf bags into the cart. They show us how to mark our golf ball on the green. How to have good on-course etiquette.

We owe our dads for a lot, but showing us the beauty, exhilaration, and charm of golf is something we won’t ever be able to pay them back for.

While Fathers Day comes and goes and we express our gratitude towards all the fathers out there, let’s not forget to show our appreciation for our first golf teachers. It’s because of them that we obsess over this game, and will likely pass that obsession down to the next generation when we get the chance.
