Of The Masters and Men

It’s that time of year again, the so called “One in the Spring.” Sure, you’re likely thinking “not another Masters post.” My experience, however, is a bit different than most avid golf fans.

I didn’t grow up watching the Masters. To be honest, spring mainly brought thoughts of Baseball and Opening Day more so than Golf and The Masters. It was more of little league season, batting practice, and ground balls, not driving range time, golf courses, or golf balls.

I may have missed all the classic Masters moments, but that’s the fun part. It seems like every year I have watched, the magic is noticeable.

As a somewhat newer fan of professional golf, it’s hard to not be excited about the Masters. Describing why is nuanced and pretty personal. This tournament, above all others, has a feeling. It feels like the start. That’s the personal bit. The start is up to you.

For me, The Masters now represents the start of the golf season. As a Midwesterner, spring has a feeling unlike any other. If you’re from this part of the country, you know what I mean. A warm day in March? Nothing like it. That’s why the Masters is a big deal. It reminds me of a feeling. The feeling of breaking free from the cold and snow and the start of sun, warmth, and golf. That’s not something you can manufacture.

Here’s to another start. Here’s to another golf season.
